Space Resources Affiliate Faculty member Johan Vanneste and PhD student Alexandre Bray developed a bioreactor that incorporates gas exchange technology to create plastic feedstock for 3D printing. With funding from NASA, and in partnership with bioplastic producer startup Mango Materials, they flew the bioreactor onboard a parabolic flight airplane to test how gases pass through the membrane in the bioreactor under microgravity, lunar, and Martian gravity levels.
