Students from Colorado School of Mines’ Space Resources Graduate program have been selected to participate in Level 2 of the NASA Watts on the Moon Challenge, a competition part of the NASA Centennial Challenges Program seeking solutions for energy distribution, management and storage for space flight and future operations on the lunar surface. Students Ken Liang, Chris Tolton, and Kostas Papangelis formed Team Orbital Mining Corporation (OMC) to address the problem of how to power lunar missions. Over 30 teams submitted proposals for Watts on the Moon’s initial call for entries. The Mines team is one of seven that were selected to move on to the second level of the competition.
